GREGORI

The soft glow of the sun trickles into my room as I pull Helina closer, bury my nose in her neck. Sending up a prayer of thanks that she is still lying in my arms.

I’d listened to her muffled sobs throughout most of the night. Her tiny frame shook as her heart broke at my inability to put words to how I feel for her until she finally fell asleep right before dawn. Her tears ripped a hole in my soul as I spent the night trying to figure out a way to explain my hesitation last night to her.

I absentmindedly rub the spot on my chest over my heart, fighting the panic that has slowly consumed me. It may seem like an excuse, but my feelings for her go beyond just a simple phrase. When I told her she was my everything last night, I meant it. If anything happened to her, I’d die. It’s that simple. Even when she was younger, she was a driving force behind all the choices I made. Sofia told me about Helina not being my father’s child was my initial reason for planning my father’s demise. I wanted to protect her from the harsh truths of the world. Wanting her to remain innocent a little longer, ignorant to the evils in the world that eventually corrupt all of us.

Her kind heart and innocence are the exact opposite of my world, the darkness suffocating me even more with each passing day. She has become my reason for being, my reason to continue to fight for my soul, calling me back from the darkness and anchoring me into the here and now.

I continue to rub the spot on my chest over my heart, fighting the panic that has slowly consumed me.

“Good morning.” Helina turns over, tucking her hands beneath her cheek and giving me a shy smile.

My cock instantly hardens as I notice the swell of her breast peeking out from beneath the sheet. Last night was her first time even being intimate with a man. I need to be patient and let her set the pace. Not to mention ensure she understands how much I love her before she leaves this room. Easier said than done.

Helina had the foresight to explain she was only my stepsister to Chelsey and Mrs. Hibbert, eliminating one of the biggest problems I foresaw with us being together. Both mean a great deal to her and, by extension, me. I’d hate for them to share the same fate as Wesley for breaking her heart.

“Did you sleep well?” I plant a chaste kiss on her lips before throwing my legs over the side of the bed and standing. “What do you want to do today?” I ask as I head toward my dresser on the other side of the room, pulling open the top drawer and grabbing a pair of boxers.

I chuckle softly as I glimpse Helina’s eyes laser-focused on my ass in the mirror. “You can take a picture.
